Starting out in photography series
The equation is deceptively simple:
Take photos + Travel + Get paid = The Dream Job.
For many – myself included – this was one of the driving forces behind why I became a photographer. To live the dream. To travel the world on someone else’s dime.
The reality of course is often a little different. Yet despite this, I know there are still people out there dabbling in photography that are trying to figure out how to make the jump into the world of paid photography work. I know this, because each year I receive a number of emails asking me how I do, what I do.
To be honest, these emails surprise me for the simple fact that I have only been a working photographer since 2005. Furthermore, I don’t have all the answers! Far from it.
After receiving an email a couple of months back asking for some advice, I decided it was time to share what I have learnt in my short time as working photographer in this crazy profession. The result is a series of posts that I have titled ‘Starting out in Photography’.
These posts reflect lessons that I have learnt in the last few years. I can only write based on my experience. I imagine for some, the posts will be useful, while for others, it is something you will have already learnt.
Either way, please feel free to contribute your own thoughts in the comments section.
