Getty Images

It has been a good year for me and stock photography. Earlier in the year, I signed with Aurora Photos and since signing I have been sending a constant stream of stock submissions in for representation. Last month I had my first image licensed via an Aurora distribution partner, Corbis.
Last week I received an email from Getty Images notifying me that the ten images I had sent in as part of my application process had all been accepted and I was offered a contract to join Getty as an image contributor on a per-image exclusive basis. While the contributor rates with Getty are not nearly as attractive as those of Aurora Photos, Getty is the largest stock library in the world with a more generalised collection. Aurora on the other hand is a smaller agency with a more specialised collection.
While the hey day of stock travel photography is well and truly passed, I would much rather have my accepted images ready for licensing via a stock library, than rotting away on my hard drives. Though I have licensed images myself directly to clients in the past, I would much rather an agency handle this side of things, so I can spend my time out and about shooting.
