George Town Penang, Malaysia.
I spent two-days in George Town Penang, Malaysia this last weekend. It was great to get away from Bangkok for a couple of days and unwind in the quiet streets of George Town.
What struck me most about George Town was the old and the new, particularly with the architecture. You never see the ghastly new buildings that have been built in the tourism brochures and guidebooks, but the 20-story apartment buildings were the first thing I noticed (hence the opening photo below contrasting the old and the new).
Fortunately, George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Listed site and the Core Zone has been saved from further development that doesn’t support the look and feel of this important site.
