Baku, Azerbaijan
Things I’ve noticed in the two days we’ve been in Baku:
Hand on my heart, the water of the Caspian Sea actually smells of oil. And you can see oil on the water at the shore line.
Men – in particular – love their big SUV’s. Mercedes, Lexus’ and BMW’s are every where. There is clearly a lot of money in Baku.
Petrol is really cheap at 1.00 NZD a litre.
People stare. A lot.
Though it is hot here, no men wear shorts. The favored jean style with the younger generation is the stove leg cut.
Older people tend to know the Russian language, while the younger generation just stare at you blankly.
Platform stilettos are pretty popular with women right now.
Flying to Aktau in Kazakhstan tonight. Decided against wasting time and burning through money in Baku trying to get the once a week cargo vessel to Aktau.
