This is really a cautionary note for non-Kazakh travellers coming to Almaty thinking they will get a China visa…
The Chinese consulate in Almaty is incredibly bureaucratic. You need an official letter of invitation with your application and as far as I can ascertain there is no visa support agency in Almaty that can help with that.
Sure, the consulate gave us an email address in China…too bad they responded in Chinese, saying ‘email received’. So helpful…
And the consulate won’t provide you with any English visa application forms, though they exist.
It’ll probably be easier getting blood from a stone.
Needless to say, we are reviewing our trip intentions.
