In Transit: Bishkek to Osh
Bishkek to Osh: a 700-km, 10-hour drive in 40-degree heat.
We ended up paying 4,000 som for a shared taxi, which was about 1,000 som ($25NZD) too much. On the flip side, the car was a BMW in good working order and the driver was a nice guy who didn’t drive like a maniac.
Photo captions:
One of three huge trucks at a petrol station just out of Bishkek.
Spectacular mountain scenery near the first pass. You can see the road far below.
Temporarily broken down on our way to the pass. We passed 20-30 broken down cars and trucks throughout the day.
Passing car.
Chilled vodka local style.
Windy road, barren landscape and incredible heat.
Osh guesthouse door. Arriving after dark, we wandered around a typical Soviet era apartment complex in the dark, before stumbling upon the right stairwell. And eventually the right door.
