Vietnam Day 9. Early Morning Arrival in Hanoi

4.14 am arrival at Hanoi train station, Vietnam.

[Back on deck, after relocating from Bangkok Thailand to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Looking forward to sharing the Cook Islands with my readers in the coming months. First though, time to finish off my two week trip to Vietnam in December.]

Let’s be honest, you really have to force yourself to take photos when it is 4 am in the morning. Even more so when you are tired, half asleep and trying to find your way to the exit at Hanoi train station, after two days of train travel.

Photograph from a walk I did around Kuala Lumpur last night, taking night shots.

I covered the iconic Petronas Twin Towers on my first night, so I was looking for the aesthetic, but not often photographed parts of KL.

The Convention Centre near the Twin Towers – which were right behind me – is just one example of a building you just don’t see photographs of.

While I never got into photography for building architecture, I must admit that I enjoy rounding out my photographic coverage of an area by finding the most aesthetic and interesting buildings to photograph.

Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Night time view of the Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At 451.9 metres high, the Petronas Twin Towers are arguably one of the most photographed sites in all of Malaysia. The number of people I have seen photographing the towers, with everything from mobile phone cameras through to digital SLR’s, is just incredible.

Visually, the Twin Towers are best at night. Lit up like two huge glowing candle sticks, the Twin Towers seem to glow against the dark back drop of night.

Indian Wedding Cruise Along Chao Phraya River, Bangkok, Thailand.

I recently photographed a four-day Indian wedding event in Bangkok. It all kicked off with a fantastic evening cruise along Chao Phraya River, the river that runs through the heart of Bangkok.

Guests’ were treated to a great selection of food, along with a wonderful performance by a group of young, talented Thai performers.

My favorite moment of the evening was when one of the guests got up, grabbed the microphone and sang this great song in his native language (photo 8 below).

Look Closer, Maldives

Huvafen Fushi Resort Maldives

Just back from a full day, night and morning of shooting at the ever spectacular Huvafen Fushi Resort in the Maldives. Huvafen really is one of the best resorts in the Maldives.

Bangkok Kaleidoscope

Having never lived in a mega-city before, I am really enjoying the diversity of shooting opportunities that exist in a place like Bangkok. After dark, Bangkok is a kaleidoscope of colour. A couple of favourites from some recent shoots.

I don't think there are any rules about advertising in this city.

POSTCARD | Chiang Mai Thailand

This weeks postcard comes from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. A friendly, some what laid back town, Chiang Mai has a thriving tourism industry - white water rafting, elephant rides, hill tribe trekking, the list goes on – as well as a small river running through the middle of town. The river is the best place to be at the end of the day to watch the sun go down, see the lanterns come on and enjoy an evening meal.

Bangkok after the rain

Bangkok at night.

Yesterday evening a huge monsoon downpour laid siege to Bangkok for about 2-hours. Boy, did it rain.

Afterwards at around midnight, I grabbed my gear and headed to the top of our 24-story building.

The rain had dropped all the dust out of the air and though it was nighttime, the air had a razor sharp quality to it. Perfect for some time lapse photography of the city.

This was my favourite of the bunch.
