Blue Mountains, Australia
In April 2019, we hopped an A-380 from Christchurch to Sydney for three-weeks in the wonderful Blue Mountains. We were incredibly fortunate to stay four nights at Hayley and Ben’s property in Little Hartley (The Farm) and spend the remainder of our time in their AirBnb Studio on their Medlow Bath property.
With three weeks of warm, flawless weather (it only rained once), we had loads of mini-adventures with and without the kids. Below is a recap of adventures we had:
8th April | Hydro Majestic - day walk to the cliffs below the refurbished hotel
9th - 12th April | The Farm - three nights / four days in Little Hartley. Kids loved the animals, exploring the granite boulders and hanging with Grandpa JP.
13th April | Fortress Creek Ridge - day walk to the cliff edge, with views back towards Medlow Bath
14th April | Grand Canyon loop - 6-km day walk, beginning at the southern end and ending at Evan’s Lookout. Probably the highlight of the trip for the kids.
15th April | Thomas, with Rob, Hayley, Arthur and his buddies, do the nearby Juggler Canyon.
16th - 17th April | Family trip to Deep Pass, Wollemi National Park. Managed to get lost on the maze of roads out on Newnes Plateau, but found the right one in the end. Fantastic night camping at Deep Pass (had the whole place to ourselves) and exploring the cool creeks, rock cracks and Aboriginal hand art the next day. A real challenge for the kids to walk out of, given all the trips we had been doing.
19th April | Family trip to Govett’s Leap cliff top walk. Fantastic views out over the valley.
20th April | JP returns and joins us on a day trip to Butterbox Point, Mt Hay. Great views, lunch and company.
22nd April | Short walk along Narrowneck for a picnic lunch. Jane found a fantastic cliff top spot with expansive views out to Mt Solitary. Stunning!
24th April | Drove to Sydney and stayed the night at Rydges Hotel in room 802, with views of the planes taking off. The kids were in heaven.
25th April | Early morning flight from Sydney to Christchurch.
Huge thanks and gratitude to our lovely friends Hayley and Ben. The trip wouldn’t have happened without their wonderful generosity in terms of accommodation and the loan of a vehicle. We love you guys. T, J, F & H xx
