Gentoo Penguin encounter, Cuverville Island, Danco Coast, Antarctica.

Photographed during a landing on Cuverville Island, this frame is a favourite of mine as you don’t often see people looking up to penguins.

The Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua) is an easy penguin to identify, thanks to a bright red-orange bill and a large white patch above their eyes. Like most penguins, they are naturally curious about humans.

Gentoo Penguins can be found in abundance in the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula, where this photo was taken.
