Before I spent a week staying in sleeping Aitutaki Island, I had read that Aitutaki lagoon had been voted the best lagoon in the world, by Condé Naste.

Given I had spent two-years in the Maldives, I was naturally skeptical. Best lagoon in the world?

Come on. That is a big claim.

While on Aitutaki, I went for a day trip on the lagoon along with a group of other traveller’s. And while the day started off threatening rain, it eventually cleared to cobalt blue skies. Between the snorkelling with schools of fish, to the our lunch on a deserted island to stepping foot on the infamous One-Foot Island, I can happily say that Condé Naste was spot on. It really is one of the best lagoons in the world.

A simply stunning place to visit.
